Festival Chorus Newsletter
January 2012
Happy New Year. We ended 2011 with a flourish – a wonderful concert around the theme of St Nicholas, followed by our usual party – enormous thanks to Terry and Angie Coghlan for hosting this. Now we look forward to our Easter Concert which will be on Saturday 24th March. This will be very different in many ways. We are featuring three modern British composers whose works are very much of this century, yet are firmly within the choral tradition in which we sing. Bob Chilcott is a name many will recognise – his settings for carols are becoming increasingly well known. His Requiemwhich we will be singing was first performed in 2010. Equally recent is the Missa Brevis by Jonathan Dove, which had its first performance in 2009. Our third piece is a setting of the Magnificat by Cecilia McDowall, whose Shipping Forecastcreated for the Portsmouth Festival Choir may have been heard by some when it was broadcast last year. We look forward to welcoming members to sing these exciting and beautiful new works.
