Festival Chorus Newsletter
April 2013
Choral Workshop
Our new rehearsal season has started and we look forward to a lovely Baroque Summer with an Italian flavour. However, before that we have our Choral Workshop on Saturday 11th May. Yes, I did say “our” because this has been arranged, and is being hosted, by The Festival Chorus as part of the Wandsworth Arts Festival. We hope – indeed, urge, members past and present to sign up for what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable day of making music.
James Burton, who has agreed to take the day, has a national and international reputation as a choral director through his work with the Halle Choir, Schola Cantorum of Oxford, ( he has been their musical director since 2002), and the St Endellion MusicFestival. He is also a composer and will be introducing one of his own compositions, The Convergance of the Twain as part of the programme. However, we will also explore music from across the centuries using the European Sacred Music many of us already own; there will be copies to borrow on the day. On the way, there will be a chance to pick up tips that will make your singing experience even more enjoyable. To add further to the proceedings there will coffee, cakes and opportunities to socialise (though we do ask you to bring a picnic lunch). We really do want to attract a good crowd – especially from the Festival Chorus, for this special occasion.
We look forward to welcoming you, 10.00am at St Luke’s Church,Thurleigh Road SW12. Please come and join us and spread the word..
