Rehearsal news etc.

A reminder – our next SATURDAY Rehearsal is 1st November, 10.00am – 1.00pm at St Mary’s Church, Balham High Road SW12
St Mary’s Church is very close to Balham Underground and Overground Stations. The bus stop is also near by. There is no parking for cars, but bicycles can be secured outside; please do not bring bicycles into the church.

This is a really good opportunity to revise material that we have been rehearsing these past few weeks

Please collect your allocation of tickets this Saturday if you have not done so already. If you already know that you will not be using them, I would be most grateful if you could let me know.

Please do wear warm clothes.

New Choral Director:

We now have a shortlist of 4 candidates for the post of Musical Director when David leaves. They have been invited to take part in the Monday Rehearsals for the Verdi Requiem.
The dates will be 3 and 10 November – both occasions when David will be away. Each candidate will be invited to lead the choir for about 40 minutes, allowing 2 candidates on each Monday.

We will be providing evaluation forms to give Choir members the opportunity to comment on each candidate. This feedback will contribute to the discussions the Committee will then have, before the Committee makes its final decision. We would like as many members as possible to have the opportunity to comment, and hope you will be able to come to those rehearsals. However, to ensure that the candidates have a real chance to conduct, we would ask you to arrive very promptly and be prepared for the rehearsal to last slightly longer than usual

We plan to hold a “Farewell Party” for David after the Verdi. This will be in the Hall at St Luke’s. We will also be presenting him with a gift. We have learnt that he would appreciate the opportunity to have composition lessons with Cecilia McDowall. Since he will be away on both 3 and 10 November, you will have the chance to contribute to this at those rehearsals – there will be boxes on the table. If you would prefer to make an electronic transfer you can do this through the website as with the BACS registration process. Please put David as the reference NOT your name

Singers invited:
Suzy Lamplugh Trust is looking for singers for their fundraising carol concert again. This year they are raising money for the Reach Appeal – helping the National Stalking Helpline to reach out to more victims of stalking.

As last year, the event is taking place at All Saints Church in East Sheen (SW14 8AU) on Thursday 11th December. The concert will start at 6.30pm, so singers would ideally need to arrive at 5.30pm for a quick rehearsal and set up. It’s a fun evening for a great cause, and there is a glass of wine and a mince pie for all volunteers! Talk to Peter Dannheisser or Paul Infield (basses)
