Concert next week and AGM

Our Summer concert is almost here. We hope we will be welcoming many friends through the doors of St Luke’s Church for what promises to be a jewel of a concert. Relatively short in that we will be just performing the Mass in C Minor by Mozart, it will be ideal for a summer evening. The Mass is not a Requiem, rather as the Mass that would have been used as the Sunday service, it is a celebration in which the emphasis is on the element of praise; and Mozart certainly makes the most of this opportunity providing his choirs – I use the term advisedly since we sing as two choirs for some of the wonderful choruses – with music to revel in. This is hardly surprising. Mozart, only 22, composed it as a expression of thanks for the recovery of Constanze Weber from illness. He was, of course, engaged to Constanze. The music is deceptively simple but is in fact full of interest and challenge both for audience and performers. Join us for the experience.

We will be following our performance with our now customary Barbecue. While tickets will be available on the evening, (£6.00 per person for a glass of wine + food; there will be a paying bar for further drinks), please let us know if you would like one to ensure we have numbers for the catering.

Monday 29th sees our A.G.M. This will take place from 8.00pm at 12 Earlsfield Road SW18. As always we will hope to keep the business concise – but it is an opportunity to meet the Committee and to hear plans and aspirations as well as comment. Food and wine will ensure that is the enjoyable social occasion we have always enjoyed.

We are already thinking about our next term. We will be starting our rehearsals on Monday 7th September at Broomwood Hall, Kyrle Road SW11. However, for this term we will be starting at 7.45pm in order to rehearse for 2 hours. We will be rehearsing Monteverdi’s Vespers for our concert on Saturday 28th November. For those interested in singing the registration form is already available on our website.

However, before that we have a date with Mozart.
